Objectives: Describe the relationship of spirituality in coping with liver disease of patients who underwent liver transplantation. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: We interviewed 34 patients after liver transplantation, male (79,4%), mean age 55.56 years; married (64,71%); with incomplete primary education (47,06%), and no work at present (70,59%). The predominant religion was Catholic (55,88%), followed by 26,47% protestant or evangelical. All considered important spirituality to cope with the disease. To 14.71%, at some point the disease as punishment or divine / sacred / spiritual punishment. Conclusion: The majority considered it important to confront the disease spirituality, as well as the need for staff to address the topic in the query. Understanding the relationship between spirituality and coping in treatment can bring important benefits for the management of patients in a comprehensive manner by health teams.
