To promote positive interpersonal relationships and mental health, researchers have advocated the inclusion of social skills in university curricula and the implementation of programs with students, especially those who will work in educational contexts such as pedagogues. The study evaluated the effects of a social skills program on the social repertoire, self-efficacy and perception of social support of 22 pedagogy students, 19 women and three men aged 19 to 45 years, from a public university in the state, from Rio de Janeiro. An exploratory intervention focused on the promotion of mental health was performed, consisting of seven meetings. Participants responded before and immediately after the intervention, the Social Skills Inventory, the Self-Efficacy Scale and the Social Support Scale. The analysis, with repeated measures, indicated that after the intervention the students presented more assertiveness, expression of positive feelings, self-exposure to strangers, self-control, self-efficacy beliefs and perception of social support from family and community. It is concluded that the intervention showed some indicators of effectiveness that should be evaluated in future interventions, based on experimental design.
