Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome characterized by chronic and diffused muscular pain, associated with other symptoms that influence on the quality of life (QV). The mindfulness meditation is currently one of the most known practices, with focus on the pain control and physical, mental and emotional well-being. The aim of this review was to synthesize studies on the practice of mindfulness in managing and optimizing the quality of life in patients with FM, and to analyze their methodological quality. A systematic literature review was carried out with randomized controlled clinical trials, using the descriptors “mindfulness”, “fibromyalgia”, “chronic fatigue syndrome”, “pain”, “chronic pain” and “quality of life”, in the EMBASE, MEDLINE and PubMed databases, from March to June 2021. In the results, 1527 articles were obtained, after applying the inclusion criteria, eight studies were selected. Positive results were found in incorporating mindfulness into FM treatment for pain intensity, QoL, FM impact, stress, anxiety, depression and other outcomes, but some divergences were found. The practice of mindfulness acted to modulate pain and improve quality of life, therefore, it can be considered a possibility of complementary intervention in the treatment of fibromyalgia.
