ARAUJO, Maria Emília Barroso de Oliveira e PILATI, Ronaldo. Confirmation bias in selection interview. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.1, pp.67-77. ISSN 1984-6657.
The perception process that occurs between interviewers and applicants has been largely analyzed in the literature. The aim of this study is to analyze the occurrence of confirmation bias in selection interviews, as well as interviewers' confidence in their evaluation of applicants. Confirmation bias refers to a tendency that interviewers have to confirm their prior impressions after conducting interviews. Questionnaires evaluated impressions of 25 applicants formed before and after interviews by 4 interviewers. The results show higher impact of confirmation bias in the more experienced interviewers. Confidence was higher after the interview than after the first selection phase. In addition, confidence had no impact on the occurrence of confirmation bias. The suggestions and limitations of the research are listed, as well as issues that need further elaboration.
