LEAL, Daniele Fontoura da Silva  e  ZANELLO, Valeska. “I Neither Have Nor Want to Have Kids”: Subjectives Issues Implied in Non-Maternity Option. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp.77-92.  Epub 08-Jul-2024. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v14i3.1949.

Non-maternity has become a growing option in Brazil, where currently 37% of women are in this group. This article aimed to raise which subjective aspects are involved in this option. It was qualitative research, in which interviews were carried out with ten women selected using the “Snowball Sample” technique, being five white and five black of different sexual orientations and social classes, with no fertility problems and voluntarily childless. The interviews were submitted to Content Analysis (Bardin, 1977), and four categories were listed. The results indicate that these women perceive motherhood as a place of great social demand and strong renunciation of personal and professional projects. The lack of desire for motherhood is still socially stigmatized, and the greatest demands for motherhood are made to heterosexual women. New studies from a gender perspective are recommended.

Palavras-chave : maternity; women; non-maternity; genre.
