Work is a source of pleasure and suffering, affecting the workers’ mental health, such as health residents. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the psychosocial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of health residents working in a hospital environment. In this qualitative and field research, semi-structured interviews were conducted online, and, to interpret the data, the thematic analysis method was used. Four categories were identified: interrelationship between work, psychosocial aspects, and mental health of the residents, which showed precarious working conditions; the COVID-19 pandemic and the imposition of changes illustrated work overload, loss of autonomy, and, on the other hand, strengthening of relationships; feelings and self-care that pointed to a prevalence of fear and stress; and developing skills to deal with psychological distress, including self-care, organization, and strengthening of the support network. It was concluded that the pandemic context triggered more adverse effects than promoting the mental health of health residents working in a hospital, highlighting the need for care in a complex way.
