LATTANZIO, Felippe Figueiredo e RIBEIRO, Paulo de Carvalho. Genesis and early developments of the concept of gender. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.3, pp.409-425. ISSN 0103-5665. https://doi.org/10.33208/PC1980-5438v0030n03A01.
Based on a perceived gap in gender studies, for disregarding the genesis and early developments of the concept, the authors rescue the concept of gender by John Money, proposed in 1955, and its initial theoretical developments prior to 1975, the year in which Gayle Rubin employs the concept for the first time within feminist theories. Two other authors, Ralph Greenson and Robert Stoller, are discussed along the way. The main objective is to provide a basis for researchers in the field to understand the history and genealogy of such a widespread concept. In the end, it is argued that the rift between studies of a political bias and those of a clinical bias in the area of gender must be defused, though without overlooking the tensions and paradoxes between these fields. Such tensions must be explored and maintained, as they reflect the complexity and transdisciplinarity inherent in the field of gender studies.
