The objective of this research is to evaluate the quality of life of patients with laryngeal cancer and indication of total laryngectomy as primary treatment, whereas changes caused by the disease and therapeutic interventions employed. We used a demographic questionnaire and Evaluation Questionnaire for Quality of Life at the University of Washington (UW-QOL). We interviewed 19 patients, mean age was 60 years and 89.5% male. It was found an average composite score of 50.8. The areas that were worst average scores were anxiety, speech and mood. In general, the quality of life of patients is impaired by cancer treatments performed by past and by the expectation of the realization of total laryngectomy, because 47.4% of patients considered their overall quality of life as poor or very poor.
