PEREIRA, Maria da Graça e PEREIRA, Angela. Validation of the hypertension risk perception questionnaire and the health value scale. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2013, vol.16, n.2, pp.137-15216. ISSN 1516-0858.
This paper describes the validation to the Portuguese population of the Hypertension Risk Perception (HRP)(Crump, 2010) and the Health Value Scale (HVS), (Lau, Hartman, & Ware, 1986). In this study, 25 hypertension patients were included that were assessed, in an hospital setting, on their perception of hypertension risk, health value, quality of life, satisfaction with social support and lifestyle. Results revealed that the HRP presented a reasonable fidelity. The validity study found a single factor that explained 42% of the variance. The HVS showed a good reliability and validity study found a single factor that explained 62% of the total variance. Both instruments have good convergent validity with lifestyle, social support and quality of life. There were negative associations between lifestyle and the perception of risk of hypertension and the physical activity subscale of lifestyle and health value, and positive associations between health value and the scale of satisfaction with social support .Based on the results, both questionnaires show good psychometric qualities that allow its use in hypertensive patients, in a hospital setting.
