GURGEL, Marina Gasparoto do Amaral e SISTO, Fermino Fernandes. CORRELATIONAL STUDY BETWEEN INTELLIGENCE AND MEMORY IN ELDERLY POPULATION. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp.163-172. ISSN 1677-0471.
This study aimed at verifying the relation between intelligence and short-term memory in an elderly population. 64 people, both genders and aging from 51 to 97 years old (M= 67,19 SD= 8,09) were participants. Teste de Raciocínio Inferencial (RIn), and Teste Pictórico de Memória were administrated as instruments. Participants` age was correlated to the punctuations on both tests, and a low magnitude, negative and significant correlation was found, indicating that as age increases, elderly`s intelligence and memory decrease. Besides, Student’s t test evidenced that there weren’t statistically significant differences between sexes in relation to memory and intelligence. A moderated magnitude, positive and significant correlation was found between the total punctuation of both tests, so that convergent validity evidences were found
