ARAUJO, Tereza Cristina Cavalcanti Ferreira de e GUIMARAES, Tathiane Barbosa. Interactions between volunteers and users in pediatric onco-hematology: a study on the clown doctors. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.3. ISSN 1808-4281.
Clown doctors are volunteers whom wear trademark circus style in activities at hospitals, proportioning physical, psychological and social well being to the patient. Trying to better understand, interviews with patients, caretakers and clown doctors were conducted, as observations of the activities at a pediatric onco-hematology ward. The responses obtained indicate that patients and caretakers perceive the benefits of the clown doctors' intervention as distracting coping strategies as well as stimulation of development in adverse conditions. Also discussed are the peculiarities of the clowns' identity and their overall effect in the field of health. Considering the relevance of the topic to sub-areas of Psychology, it is suggested to conduct more research on clown-doctors and their interactions at hospitals.
