The referral of children with school complaints to mental health services has been an increasingly widespread practice, generating the need for greater knowledge of this demand and the discussion about the standardization and pathologization of education. Thus, this study aims to track and map the school complaint at the Centro de Orientação Médico Psicopedagógica do Distrito Federal, in order to reflect on the characteristics of this demand in mental health services. We analyzed 79 medical records of children who participate in Therapeutic Groups held at the institution. The data were analyzed quantitatively through descriptive statistics. There was a great demand from children with school problems, most of them boys referred by schools, who recurrently point to these behavioral and/or emotional problems. School complaints related to behavioral and/or emotional problems are the most frequent in the service. Most of these children have a diagnosis or diagnostic hypothesis, often attributed by doctors, and more than half also use some medication. Thus, it is necessary that health and education professionals rethink their practices, considering the political, social, economic and educational factors in the production of school complaints. It is urgent to expand discussions about the rampant practice of pathologization of education.
