BRANCO, Paulo Coelho Castelo e CIRINO, Sérgio Dias. Reflectionson the consciousness in phenomenology and person-centered approach. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.9, n.2, pp.241-258. ISSN 1983-8220.
Theoretical study which discusses, in a narrative review format, the Rogerian notion of consciousness, by relating it to the US context of psychological ideas, from William James' thought and the appropriation of the Carl Rogers' legacy in Brazil, through a phenomenological lineage. In this sense, the notion of consciousness on the theories of Carl Rogers, William James and Edmund Husserl are presented. Following, we discuss the controversies and possibilities that this appropriation leads to in the Brazilian development of the Person-Centered Approach (PCA), with regard to: the functional and intentional aspects of consciousness; the empirical and transcendental perspectives of the person; the possibilities of a PCA phenomenological approach; the local dimensions of PCA, and the risk of assuming an averse posture to Rogerianism. Therefore, we conclude that this reflection problematizes and deepens theoretical elements concerning Rogers' Psychology; and encompasses the development and hybridization of this knowledge in Brazil, in order to reflect its extensions.
