ZAPPE, Jana Gonçalves e DAPPER, Fabiana. Drug Addiction in Adolescence: Family as Risk or Protection Factor. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.1, pp.140-158. ISSN 2175-5027. https://doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2017.v9i1.1616.
Drug use in adolescence is a complex and multifaceted problem that is influenced by individual, familiar, peer group and contextual aspects. The family has been a highlighted aspect in the literature, both due to its importance in providing conditions for a healthy development in adolescence as to the need of participating on interventions aiming to overcome difficulties. This paper presents a systematic review of studies which investigated the links between drug use in adolescence and family aspects. Two databases were consulted - Scielo and Redalyc - searching for the terms adolescence, drug addiction and family. Were selected 22 articles, and they were analyzed using frequency distributions and content analysis. The results indicated that the family has been considered a risk or protection factor for drug use in adolescence, according to how its role is played. Aspects such as dialogue, family monitoring and the use of drugs by friends or family are aspects highlighted in the literature. In conclusion, the importance of family participation on prevention interventions or coping with drug use in adolescence is emphasized.
