SILVA, Eroy Aparecida da et al. Drugs in the family environment, from the cinema perspective. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2008, vol.10, n.1, pp.214-222. ISSN 1516-3687.
The post-modern culture is highly visual. The cinema has enabled men to rebuild what is real through images. This is done in such a way that the public psycho-affective involvement is intense. The objective of this study was to describe family dynamics in the presence of drugs according to the cinema perspective. We chose 5 movies produced between 1995 and 2000 which involved drug use and family relationship, as follows: Bicho de sete cabeças” (Brazilian); TrainspottingTraffic, Requiem for a dream, The basketball diaries (American movies); and Trainspotting (European). We focused on scenes related to the repercussion of drug use in the family relationship. In fact, this study focused strictly on three aspects of them: family dynamics, the kind of drugs used by the household members and the family reactions to the problem. The images show some family dynamics: rigid and authoritarian, permissive and without limits, distant and dependent. They also show all the family members reactions such as anger, guilt, psychological insecurity, complicity and fear. This study made it possible to recognize how important the use of images is as didactic and therapeutic resources, both while training professionals as well as when it comes to the family therapy area.
