COLAO, Magda Maria  e  SIQUEIRA, Janes Teresinha Fraga. Psychoanalysis: a dialectical relationship between the self and the social?. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2018, n.49, pp.125-138. ISSN 0100-3437.

Throughout his life and work, Freud (bold, rebellious and creative) analyzed his own cultural and psychic metamorphosis. Freud, a political being. He had art; science; he developed his approach to the world; exercised his profession with praxis; pursuing the results he sought in all fields and relations with courtesy and humility. His vigorous theory and desire to guide psychoanalysis as a science contributed to a new therapeutic, social and humanistic conception of human subjectivity. This is the fundamental meaning of the theory of libido. His dialectic does not place the self and the social being in opposition; in other words, there were no strict boundaries between them. The main objective of this study is to debate our understanding that given Freud’s cultural formation and legacy, it would be a mistake to consider him an individualist or disconnected from the social, as if he did not consider man living in harmony with nature within his social environment and developing his relationships. In group psychology and analysis of the ego, Freud, in the psychic life of self, established the Other, who is typically considered a model, object, helper and adversary, and as such, from the outset individual psychology is also social psychology in a broader, but entirely justified sense. Psychoanalysis deals with living material: human beings, their feelings, fantasies, desires and meanings, as well as their inhibitions, symptoms and fears. Psychoanalysis means conceiving that each self has their own art and, in the words of Vigotski, art is the social within us.
