KLEIN, Thais e HERZOG, Regina. Melancholy in Lars Von Trier and the psychoanalysis. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.1, pp.129-145. ISSN 0103-5665. https://doi.org/10.33208/PC1980-5438v0030n01A07.
The present article addresses melancholy in psychoanalysis proceeding from considerations about "Melancholia", a film by Lars Von Trier. The melancholic speech, according to Freud, is "closer to the truth", because it exposes the helplessness condition. "Melancholia", the film, touches on this very spot, placing through images, in fiction, the issue of facing death. This kind of image contemplates the aesthetic, psychic and political matter of thinking while facing the terror of helplessness. The melancholic solution presented in film is approached to tragedy. Refusing to go by the bias of deficit or pathology, the purpose is to point out the potentiality of the tragic output undertaken by the main character, differentiating it from dramatic solution and refusal. Therefore, the goal is to emphasize melancholy in its creative aspect, highlighting its contribution to the psychoanalytical practice.
