PEKNY, Vivian Mazzini e GRANATO, Tania Mara Marques. Pending time: narratives of couples who are waiting for their first adoptive child. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.3, pp.499-519. ISSN 0103-5665. https://doi.org/10.33208/PC1980-5438v0031n03A05.
The many senses attributed to adoption throughout the years, as well as changes in legislation that regulates these proceedings, affect society and would-be adoptive parents' imagination, aiding in the building of their own parenthood. In this way, the objective of this qualitative and psychoanalytically oriented study was to understand the affective-emotional senses about adoption and adoptive families for couples that undergo the process of adoption for the first time. Five couples took part in this research, having been invited by the researcher from adoption support groups they attended. The interviews were held in each couple's residence, starting with a presentation of an interactive narrative as an instrument to reach the emotional experience, according to the psychoanalytic perspective. The interpretative analyses of the narrative material collected allowed the configuration of three fields of affective-emotional meanings that make up the emotional experiences shared by the participants in the study: endless pregnancy; the weight of responsibility; adoption process: preparation or training? This study concludes that the adoption process reveals conflicts, fantasies and parental expectations, besides the parental suffering that is engendered by the process itself.
