CASSORLA, Roosevelt M. S.. Evident, my dear Watson: investigating in psychoanalysis. J. psicanal. [online]. 2018, vol.51, n.94, pp.63-77. ISSN 0103-5835.

From a lapsus in which the author confused a sentence of Detective Sherlock Holmes, the various forms of psychoanalytic investigation are discussed. It's addressed the question of scientificity, the differences between empirical research and clinical investigations, the instruments used by the clinician (intuition, imagination, reverie, firasa, serendipity) and the question of validation in psychoanalysis. From the concept of analytical field it is discussed the inevitability of the analyst to be a participant of unforeseeable phenomena, while at the same time he/she needs to objetify his/her subjectivity. The model of the theater, in which the analyst must go through several functions, is presented. Finally, using clinical material, the importance of close observation of setting ruptures is shown. These ruptures usually indicate the presence of new facts that, in the face of meticulous investigation, can enrich psychoanalytic knowledge. The difficulties of its publication are also discussed.

Palavras-chave : research in psychoanalysis; clinical research; analytical field; analytical setting; intuition.
