This article aims to show the activity of the farmers planting vegetables in Alvinho, Lagoa Seca/PB and its effects on their health and welfare. The method used was the instructions for the double and the techniques of the general and systematic observation and semi-structured interview. In the analysis of the work it was verified that the production of vegetables is divided into 10 steps. In the spraying step, farmers apply the pesticides without the use of appropriate IPE for this activity. Hence, the working process on the production of vegetables presents many problems to the workers health (WH), however, no developed disease was found. The symptoms most mentioned by farmers, probably arising from the handling of pesticides, were cramps, itchings on the arms and headaches. In face of the excessive physical, they have complained of back pain. In conclusion, the Unique Health System (SUS) does not provide attention to WH for the rural farmers who handle the pesticides.
