KASPPER, Letícia da Silva e SCHERMANN, Lígia Braun. Prevalence of common mental disorders and associated factors in women attending a Social Assistance Reference Center of Canoas/RS. Aletheia [online]. 2014, n.45, pp.168-176. ISSN 1413-0394.
Cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and associated factors in women attending a Social Assistance Reference Center of Canoas/RS. Data were collected by a sociodemographic questionnaire as well as by the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). The sample consisted of all 94 women with ages between 19 and 84 years (mean=44,5 years), family income up to one minimal salary (76,6%), less than first school grade (58,5%), Caucasian (73,4%), single (41,5%) and married (35,1%), with a mean of 3,3 children. The prevalence of common mental disorders was 52,1% and there were not significant association with the risk factors included in the study. The high prevalence of common mental disorders suggests that socioeconomic conditions, as low income, low education and lack of partnership, are potentially strong stressors to develop common mental disorders reinforcing the need to focus on specific health problems and risk groups to improve the impact of care.
