PEREIRA, Gabriele Schmidt  e  LEVANDOWSKI, Mateus Luz. Occupational stress and coping used by monitors of therapeutic communities for substance abuse. Aletheia [online]. 2016, vol.49, n.1, pp.60-73. ISSN 1413-0394.

The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to occupational stress on monitors of therapeutic communities (TC) and the coping strategies used by them. Participants were assessed with the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Brief Cope inventory and with a semi-structured interview about stressors at work and coping strategies. The sample consisted of 15 monitors in complete remission of drug use. The inductive content analysis was used to interpret the interviews. Also, bivariate correlations were used to explore the relationship between the questionnaires. It was found that the monitors are affected by excessive workload, professional exhaustion, self-blame and relationship with the treatment of residents. They use the spirituality strategies, talk with others and isolation to adapt to stress. According to this study, there are factors related to occupational stress in these professionals, in which they must receive support for using adaptive coping strategies.
