Palavras-chave: psicologia do desenvolvimento, etologia, investimento parental, sociobiológia.
SUMMARY
The parental solicitude (or love) is a motivational variable which is influenced by indicators related to the characteristics of the parents, the children, and the situation, such as: degree of father-child kinship, phenotypic attributes of the child and reproductive alternatives, and investment opportunities of the father and the mother (Wilson & Daly, 1994). Starting from this sociobiological hypothesis we intend to demonstrate: 1) that the patterns of development and the behavior of the child are also central factors in the determination of the parental solicitude and investment, 2) possibilities of integration of biological and social factors in the determination of parental investment, and 3) that, during the 90s, the methodological and conceptual shifts on Developmental Psychology and Ethology and the advancement in related áreas, specially the Neurosciences, have created conditions for the integration of these áreas.
Key-words: developmental psychology; ethology; parental investment, sociobiology.
