ARAUJO, Marley Rosana Melo de et al. Bicycle and modal shift: an investigation in Aracaju. Temas psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp.463-480. ISSN 1413-389X.
Nowadays, transit is an urban problem that motivates several engineering solutions, among them the modal shift. In Aracaju-SE, this solution could be introduced through the bicycle use. This study aimed to investigate the bicycle use and its determinants for those who live in Aracaju, what is the purpose of this use (leisure/sport or transportation) and the aspects that mediate it. 326 people were heard, both genders, living in Orlando Dantas neighborhood. Data was captured house-by-house, with conglomerates in multiple steps sampling draw and structured interviewing technique. After data processing and analysis, it was verified that people who use the bicycle as a means of transportation are more exposed to the traffic and require more attention when planning the cycle path system. It was concluded that the bicycle does not contribute effectively to the execution of modal shifts yet, although it presents a potential to be explored by transit organization programs.
