MORAES, Marcia. Ways of research with visual handicapped youths: two case studies. Psicol. esc. educ. [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.2, pp.311-322. ISSN 1413-8557.
This study investigates the relations between body and cognition among visual handicapped youths. Two case studies are presented based on contributions from critical action research and from actor network theory. The subjects were born blind, both regular students enrolled at Benjamin Constant Institute's Theatre Troupe, in Rio de Janeiro. These students were also members of Benjamin Constant Institute's Body Expression Group that aimed to promote ludic body experimentations to easy the character building. The activities proposed were based on the difficulties experimented by the subjects when they were rehearsing the play. The results underlines that the notion of body implies connection between humans and non-humans and that to change body gestures is the same of creating new cognitives experiences. These results show the relevance of the relation between psychology and education.
