This paper aims to discuss some of the present ways of conceiving the autisms in childhood, from the theoretical perspective inaugurated by facques Lacan. In order to do so, it reconsiders the nomination given by Kanner to the syndrome as well as the definition presented by Tustin. Emphasis is put on the need to distinguish between the phenomenological and the structural levels, in order to decide for a treatment direction.
