BOMFIM, Irma Helena Ferreira Benate  e  BARBIERI, Valéria. Maternal narratives: a transcultural study with Brazilian and French women. Nat. hum. [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.2, pp.29-60. ISSN 1517-2430.

This study aimed to know the experience of Brazilian and French mothers of female babies aging from three weeks old to eleven-month old. The epistemological perspective was the qualitative and the methodological strategy was the psychoanalytical narratives interpreted according to Winnicott's theory. The Children's Apperception Test was employed as a mediator of communication with mothers. Brazilian women's narratives emphasized the symbiosis and the differentiation process between the mother and the baby and the resources used to handle it as well as educational role being focused on the woman - the father being only someone who helps them. French mothers' narratives were about the same theme, but giving more importance to rescuing its own autonomy and the baby's. Compared to Brazilian mothers, the responsibility to educate their daughter were more often shared between both French parents.

Palavras-chave : motherhood; family; qualitative research; projective methods; psychoanalysis.
