RIOS, Roger Raupp  e  SANTOS, Wederson Rufino dos. Sexual diversity, education, and society: reflections from the Brazilian National Program of Schoolbooks. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.16, pp.325-344. ISSN 2175-1390.

This article discusses the approach OF sexual diversity in the Brazilian National Program of Schoolbooks (PNLD), which is one of the main public policies that guarantee the right to education. It examines the importance of considering sexual diversity in public policies, through the conceptions, characteristics, limits and advances present in PNLD. A brief exposition of the historical benchmarks from which discrimination related to sexual orientation and gender identity were included in Brazilian public policies precedes the presentation of the tendencies and tensions predominant in these policies. Then, the execution of the national policy of schoolbooks is analyzed, pointing to its potentialities, its limits, and the advances necessary to the conception and implementation of this policy. At last, the article indicates possibilities of overcoming homophobia that are already present in official institutional policies.
