MAZETTO, Tamiris Cristina Gomes  e  GARCIA, Marcos Roberto Vieira. Sewing “torn memories”: stories of asylums in Sorocaba under the lens of intersectionality. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.56, pp.75-97.  Epub 27-Maio-2024. ISSN 2175-1390.

This paper seeks to reconstruct and analyze emblematic memories about asylums in the region of Sorocaba-SP, through the testimony of women who worked there. It sought to investigate gender, race/ ethnicity and social class markers in the remembered stories, complementing research that reported human rights violations in these institutions. The reports of unique experiences were marked by social contradictions and power relations that constitute asylums, including the social function of segregation of the so-called “abject bodies”, the reproduction of the oppressions of modern colonial-patriarchal-racist capitalism and the offer of an impossible “treatment”, since one of the acts of violence was precisely the non-recognition of humanity in segregated lives. The analysis seeks to contribute to the continuity of the process of purging the traumatic social wound represented by asylums, so that we can get closer and closer, as a society, to accountability and repair of the historic debt that Sorocaba-SP has with the survivors of these spaces.
