MARAFIGA, Caroline Velasquez; FALCKE, Denise  e  TEODORO, Maycoln Leôni Martins. Pedophilia: life story of individuals and their return to family by means of gradual discharge. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.48-62. ISSN 1677-2970.

Pedophilic disorder is a sexual deviation characterized when adults sexually offend children and teenagers up to the age of 14. A large number of men diagnosed with such disorder are admitted in mental prison hospitals (as they have committed sexual crimes against vulnerable people) are subject to the so-called gradual discharge. The present study aims to investigate the life story and the return to family by gradual discharge process of patients with pedophilic disorder. The method used was the study of multiple cases and investigation was carried out by analyzing patients' interviews and their medical records. This study corroborates the findings in literature, considering both cases of study, in which a repressive and violent environment in childhood may be related to violent acts in adulthood. It was also proved that family engagement with the patients' treatment, especially during gradual discharge process, is of crucial importance as it minimizes patients' suffering and their burden of misery, thus developing empathy and interaction with each other. This model of psychosocial rehabilitation seems to favor social insertion outside an institutional environment.
