WHITAKER, Dulce Consuelo Andreatta e ONOFRE, Silvana Aparecida. Social representations in construction about university entrance exams by students of a rural free preparatory course. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.1, pp.45-55. ISSN 1984-7270.
The study investigated the Social Representations by rural students from preparatory course university entrance exams, based on Moscovicis concepts of anchorage and objectivation. The data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews and compositions, both analysed according to the Theory of Social Representations. The results highlighted the influence of the affective-cognitive factor in the expression of some of those representations, perceived by the authors as in process of construction. The representations of the young rural students were either directly anchored on the urbanized societys social representations or only repeated them. Contradictions between the students social representations and scientific studies were observed, what did not prevent intersections between them. The type of university entrance examination was never represented as being responsible for the entrance failure, which was always attributed to public school deficiencies. Considering that students from private high schools also fail, the results address the ideological issue.
