KEGLER, Paula  e  MACEDO, Mônica Medeiros Kother. Catastrophes and military action: the subjectivity and traumatic reality. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.3, pp.953-971. ISSN 1808-4281.

The topic of catastrophes has caused governmental and academic concern. Current guidelines expand the role of the Brazilian Armed Forces in assisting groups that are affected by such events. This fact validates the importance of reflecting on the complexities involved in the labour of health military teams who assist people in these critical situations. From this perspective, this theoretical article aims to address the topic of military operations being performed with a focus on an important line of action. Thus, based on the epistemological contributions of psychoanalysis, the psychoanalytical concept of trauma is used to elicit possible intrapsychic developments in subjects as they face distressing experiences in a tragedy. Studies and reflections on these psychological effects are pertinent, especially in regards to military personnel who perform care as their principal activity. It has been established that the lack of space to express suffering, due to an imposition of a professional performance suitable of the military context, can be characterized as a relevant cause of psychic suffering. Therefore, the listening to the worker is an important factor of promoting care and also directed to the psychological health of these professionals.

Palavras-chave : catastrophe; trauma; military; care; psychoanalysis.
