FINGER, Igor da Rosa e POTTER, Juliana Rausch. Motivational interviewing in the treatment of overweight/obesity: a literature review. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.2, pp.2-7. ISSN 1808-5687.
The prevalence and incidence of overweight and/or obesity in the population is high. The behavior change regarding food is still difficult, even in cases in which surgical techniques were used, during the most critical stage of obesity. The Motivational interviewing (MI) technique, first used to treat drug addiction, emerges as a possibility to encourage lasting behavioral change in individuals with overweight and obesity. This article aims to review the results of studies published between 2008 and 2010 which applied MI in overweight or obesity treatment. The descriptors motivational interviewing and obesity were searched in the following databases: Academic Research Library, Academic Search Premier, CBCA Complete (ProQuest), CINAHL (EBSCO), Dissertations & Theses, Electronic Journals, Latin American Newsstand, Medical Library, ProQuest, Pubmed/Medline, Scielo e Web of Science. Results in child, adolescent and adult treatment as well as researches with preliminary results are presented.
