FUJIE, Márcia Akemi; SANTINI, Paolla Magioni  e  WILLIAMS, Lúcia Cavalcanti de Albuquerque. Assessment of beliefs about violence in children and adolescents who are victims of frequent and occasional violence. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.spe1, pp.22-32.  Epub 15-Jul-2024. Studies indicate the negative impact of violence on brain, social, emotional and cognitive development during childhood. The way a child or adolescent understands and processes violence is related to their beliefs and ideas shaped during their development. International research shows that children and adolescents, victims of abuse, have distorted cognitions about violence. This study aimed to evaluate beliefs about violence in children and adolescents who are victims of frequent and occasional violence and, as a secondary objective, to propose an appropriate assessment instrument for the age group covered. Forty-five children and adolescents participated in the research and data collection was conducted in a Child Protection Agency, NGOs that work with socially vulnerable children and adolescents, and in the participants homes. A multiple correspondence analysis was carried out, and the main results demonstrate a correlation between the group of children and adolescents victims of frequent violence and the choice of passive alternatives in the vignettes of intrafamily violence and breaking moral rules. These results support other studies that indicate that children and adolescents victims of frequent violence have distorted cognitions about violence, presenting higher frequencies of aggressive and passive attitudes.
