ALMEIDA, Raquel Ayres de  e  MALAGRIS, Lucia Emmanoel Novaes. Evaluation of influence factors on adherence to the treatment of hypertension and diabetes. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.spe1, pp.33-42.  Epub 15-Jul-2024. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20230032.

Objective:

To carry out a partial survey of the clinical, psychological, behavioral and social aspects that interfere with adherence to the treatment of systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and diabetes mellitus (DM) using two questionnaires prepared by the authors.

Method:

The study was carried out at the Instituto de Atenção à Saúde São Francisco de Assis, and in the general population in different contexts. 82 individuals with hypertension and DM participated. The Adherence Indicators Questionnaire and the Questionnaire on Factors that Interfere with Adherence, developed by the study authors, were used as instruments.

Results:

It was observed that patients with hypertension were prevalent in the study (71.6%) and 83.1% were not considered compliant or partially adhered to medical recommendations. Participants identified as items that most negatively influenced adherence to treatment, the lack of immediate improvement in symptoms, lack of psychological resources to deal with the disease, times and duration of medical appointments and lack of professional knowledge, which were those that most influenced positively were patient motivation, professional knowledge, doctors explanation and access to medicines.

Conclusion:

It is believed that the present study can collaborate in planning actions aimed at helping the population adhere to treatment and improving quality of life.
