FROESELER, Mariana Verdolin G.; SOUZA, Ronaldo Santhiago Bonfim de; RODRIGUEZ, Susana Ines Núñez  e  TEODORO, Maycoln Leôni Martins. Development process and psychometric properties of the brief version of the Adolescents Negative and Positive Automatic Thoughts Inventory (IPANPA-30). Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.spe1, pp.43-52.  Epub 15-Jul-2024. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20230033.

Automatic thoughts are cognitive products that play an important role in Becks generic cognitive model. This relevance is evident throughout research on the cognitive aspects of different psych ological problems, age range and cultural groups. However, in the Brazilian context, until now, there was an absence of an original instrument designed to assess the construct in adolescents. Thus, the aim of this research is to present the brief version of the IPANPA 30, as an automatic thoughts assessment instrument with its evidence of validity and accuracy. For this aim, a total of 1,132 adolescents (aged between 11 and 19 yo, M =13.8) completed versions of the IPANPA and other instruments. The data was analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, which indicated the items with the best factor loadings to compose the reduced version of IPANPA with 30 items. In the confirmatory factor analysis, the theoretically expected model was consolidated as the best fit to the data. Spearmans correlation analysis pointed to evidence of validity between the IPANPA and adjacent constructs, and adequate and optimal indices of internal consistency were found. Therefore, IPANPA 30 presents itself as an appropriate instrument for evaluating auto matic thoughts in adolescents.
