PICHETH, Sara Fernandes e ICHIKAWA, Elisa Yoshie. Use of anxiolytics and antidepressants by bankers: a study of social representations. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.2, pp.354-367. ISSN 1809-8908.
Nowadays, the society lives with a belief that happiness should be endless. As people face suffering, agony, and pain, they resort to anxiolytics and antidepressants that are seen as a legitimate resource to respond to the malaise. Given this scenario, it was aimed at discovering the social representations of the use of anxiolytics and antidepressants by bankers, since these professions are known for facing high pressure environments and thus are more susceptible to use this medication. This research is characterized as qualitative and descriptive and it had its data collected through semi-structured interviews with bankers from a private banking institution in the city of Maringá-PR. The data analysis showed that, despite being aware of some harm caused by anxiolytics and antidepressants, bankers visualize them as a relief to the pain felt. Therefore, once they face situations of suffering, stress, and depression, bankers adopted or would be willing to adopt its consumption.
