HALPERN, Elizabeth Espindola e LEITE, Ligia Maria Costa. The connection between sailors' duties and alcoholism. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.2, pp.111-126. ISSN 1984-6657.
The study concerning the intersection between the sailors' duties and the alcohoolism of the military personnel from Brazilian Navy (MB), who are treated at the Center for Chemical Dependency (CEDEQ), intends to understand the factors that are peculiar to the Navy military institution, that take part in the creation of this disorder. Since 2005, a qualitative study was carried out using the ethnographic method in CEDEQ. Later, during the year 2011, a participant observation took place in two therapeutic groups during 24 sessions. The results suggest that the alcoholism of the patients of this outpatient clinic was constructed under the influence of certain factors of the work environment naval. In conclusion, naval work conditions, organization, and processes produce mental strain and psychological distress, emphasizing the exclusion experience and facilitating the manifestation of alcoholism.
