TELLES, Thabata Castelo Branco. The childhood in Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology: contributions to psychology and education. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2014, vol.6, n.2, pp.4-14. ISSN 2175-2591.
This essay focuses on the notion of childhood in Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology, especially on the issue of imitation, including its possible reverberations for discussions in psychology and education. Despite noticeable scarcity in contemporary literature in phenomenological psychology, we note that classically the theme of childhood has already been addressed by Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. In the latter case, it is seen that the phenomenon of childhood is characterized tied to issues of culture and freedom of the child, understood as someone who hangs relations with the world as it is possible. The acquisition of language in childhood needs to be thought as an attitude of placing the child in the world, and not mere assimilation. It concludes with the need, both in psychology and education, for the child to be thought as someone who stands in the world, who is able to learn and to accept the consequences of it.
