COSTA, Michele Silva da; HOLDERBAUM, Candice Steffen  e  WAGNER, Gabriela Peretti. Neuropsychological assessment in patients with brain tumors: systematic review of the literature. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.2, pp.137-160. ISSN 2175-5027.  https://doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2018.v10i2.2676.

Brain tumors (CT) are caused by abnormal cell growth. The consequences of CT scans may involve physical, cognitive and emotional impairments. It aims to identify and describe the cognitive impairments associated with CT, through a systematic review of the literature. The searches were carried out in the international databases PubMed / MEDLINE, LILACS, and SCOPUS, including abstracts of articles published from 2006 to 2016. We found 501 articles of these, 31 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. CT scans represent 5% of neoplasms, some of which are more aggressive than others. It presents as severe symptoms: cognitive deficits and motor. The neuropsychological evaluation helps in the identification of possible cognitive alterations and in the monitoring of the effects of the treatment, contributing to a better quality of life of these patients. The results found indicated the Wechsler Intelligence Scales; Raven's Progressive Matrices, Rey's Complex Figures, Benton's Visual Retention Test, and Token Test as the most commonly used ones, and evidence of impairment involving memory, attention, and executive functions. The most frequent location of these CTs were frontal and temporal regions and gliomas the most investigated type of tumor.
