MACEDO, Sybele. Language in the Structuring of the Psychic Apparatus. Analytica [online]. 2020, vol.9, n.17, pp.1-22. ISSN 2316-5197.
Psychoanalysis has as its object the unconscious, a spoken knowledge that is structured as a language. Language is fundamental to the life of the spirit, it precedes the subject and is structuring. Only by means of it can we endow the world in which we live and the absurdities of our existence with meaning. The phenomena of language are intimately related to the psychic life and its importance can be perceived from the earliest Freudian works. This article aims to discuss the role of language in the structuring of the psyche, starting from the models of psychic apparatus developed by Freud, especially at the beginning of his work, in order to understand the Lacanian aphorism according to which the unconscious is structured as a language. It is understood, therefore, that not only does the unconscious follow the laws of language, but that there is no possible discourse without condensation (metaphor) and displacement (metonymy). We conclude, then, that language structures the psyche and that we are, thus, servants of the signifier.
