This article proposes a reflection about the globalized world, searching to outline connections between the African diaspora in modernity and the movements of protest which were spread over the countries and peripheral regions as based on studies about the hip-hop movement and the formation of the youth living in the outskirts. Curiously, most of these moments were followed by urban songs of protest sung in the streets amid the manifestations, especially with the rap style. For the present reflection it was fundamental to read the North-American and Brazilian writers on the formation of metropolis outskirts and studious from other parts of the world about the role of the hip-hop movement for the formation of the youth living in the outskirts. A research undertaken with the young population from a peripheral region of São Paulo city, involving music and the composition of rap rhymes, provided a new view to education turned to diversity.
