HAZIN, Izabel et al. Contributions of WISC-III test to the understanding of high-ability children´s cognitive profile. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.2, pp.255-265. ISSN 1677-0471.
The objective of this study was to provide research data about the contribution of WISC-III in the investigation of high abilities children's cognitive profile. Sixteen 6 to 14 year-old children from both private and public schools took part in this study, being received by a public care center in Brazilian north-eastern capital for highly skilled people. They were individually submitted to a testing session divided in two parts, with a thirteen minutes interval between parts. Results indicate a significant discrepancy between verbal and execution domains in 50% of the participants. Especially noteworthy was the discrepancy between results for Factorial Indices of Verbal Comprehension and Processing Speed. These data show that WISCIII not only contributes to calculating IQs, but also give clues for understanding learning difficulties and socio-cultural choices characteristic of high intellectual ability children. Finally, results discussed here justify the need for standardization of WISCIII test for highly skilled population.
