BORGES, Jeane Lessinger e DELL'AGLIO, Débora Dalbosco. Ethical challenges in research with adolescents: the impact of requirement for parental consent. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.2, pp.43-57. ISSN 1677-2970.
This study discusses ethical aspects involved in research with adolescents, and the necessity of parental consent, according to Resolution 510 of the National Health Council. Results from teen dating violence research with 560 adolescents, aged 14-19 years old, are presented. The assumption of adolescents' autonomy, as well as concepts of cognitive development and the age of majority are debated. Implications of sample size and bias are highlighted, considering the low return rate of active parental consent (26%). Thus, possibilities for dispensing with active parental consent or the use ofpassive consent are suggested in order to increase the possibility of more representative samples.
