This article aims to analyze how the discursive production of Pernambuco journalistic media presented the political demands of Gatho, the first organized group of the LGBT movement in Pernambuco, in the 1980s. In our analyses, we draw approaches to the literature on the movement called “homosexual” during the redemocratization process in Brazil, highlighting dynamics and power plays that operated in that period. The analyzes of journalistic production we focus on are organized based on discursive repertories along four axes: (a) Gatho’s counter-hegemonic narratives; (b) narratives about the first meetings organized by the homosexual movement; (c) Gatho’s criticism to the sensationalist media; (d) Gatho’s articulation with /academic production. The results constructed contribute to giving visibility to experiences rarely referred to in the history of LGBT movement in , which, in general, prioritizes narratives from the South and Southeast of country.
