MARTINS, Fernanda Flaviana de Souza e ROMAGNOLI, Roberta Carvalho. Domestic violence against children and adolescents admitted to Hospital João XXIII (emergency care): a quantitative anlysis. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.10, n.2, pp.148-161. ISSN 1983-8220.
This study deals about the quantitative on domestic violence against children and adolescents admitted to Hospital João XXIII (emergency care) in the city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We used the charts or patients in hospital care to establish a profile of children, adolescents and families, and analyzed 1,152 medical records from the Medical and Statistical Archive Service encompassing the first six months of 2012. Belo Horizonte is the city that demands most of the Hospital. The most common causes are falls (20.5%), accidents (14.3%), burning by fire (12.2%), assaults (10.2%) and foreign bodies (7.6%). Young children go through treatment, and 36.7% of them are 0-6 years old. 70.9% are males. It is noticed that many cases that arrive at the hospital reportedly as accidents, do have, in fact, indicators of violence, though police is not always notified. Finally, this study allowed us to conclude that domestic violence is indeed a public health issue and should receive special attention from society and government.
