Bowel Constipation is a symptom that can be associated to behavioral and emotional problems, emphasizing the importance of psychological intervention. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the impact of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in a twenty nine year-old female patient in treatment for intestinal functional constipation. CBT was carried in twenty eight individual sections, using strategies and cognitive-behavioral techniques. The impact of intervention was assessed through the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Lipp's Stress Symptoms Inventory (ISSL), Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). The outcomes show a positive impact of CBT in the reduction of physiological and psychological symptoms. It also showed an improvement in quality of life and biopsychosocial functioning. Research in this area might contribute to improve effective intervention and prevention programs.
