SANTOS, Weslem Martins; LOPES, Renata Ferrarez Fernandes e NEUFELD, Carmem Beatriz. Therapeutic relationship and narrative therapy: interview with Miguel Gonçalves. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2013, vol.9, n.1, pp.61-69. ISSN 1808-5687. https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20130009.
Different models of psychotherapy have consistently advocated the importance of therapeutic relationship to a successful treatment. Despite the conceptual diversity used to refer to the therapeutic relationship construct, there are no doubts about its influence on the therapeutic process. In this article we aimed to: 1) present central concepts of narrative therapy; 2) situate the therapeutic relationship as an essential element in psychotherapy; and, 3) describe the role of the therapeutic relationship in narrative therapy. These three goals allow to contextualize the interview with Dr. Miguel Gonçalves, psychologist and researcher recognized internationally for his productions in the field of narrative action and processes involved in therapeutic change. This interview was performed during the IX Brazilian Congress of Cognitive Therapy, and Dr. Gonçalves approached the role of therapeutic relationship in the adherence and the success of the treatment; advances in the research field; relevant therapeutic skills; effect of directive interventions, among others.
