This article presents ten years of application of the literacies concept based on the work of an educational psychologist and shares tools for overcoming the privacies in the capacities of reading and writing of children, youth and adults, introducing the (Con)text Method of Multiple Literacies. It describes the Literacies Program developed throughout seven years in the town of Itapajé, in the state of Ceará in Brazil, where the act of Reading was mediated and used as a strengthening process for promoting a reencounter with the freedom to reading and writing, and the rescue of teachers and students authorships, in a mutual relationship with the educational and Brazilian local and national forms of expression. The practice that is here narrated intends to join efforts with other activities developed throughout 2005, the Ibero-american year of Reading, aiming at giving "a high jump needed for promiting a Nation of Readers-Citzens" and based on the understanding of "Reading as an estrategic question for the Brazilian Nation - serving as a way to promote inclusion and citzenship", as stated in the proposal of the Minister of Education and Minister of Culture. It ends with reflections geared towards the public policy makers of reading and writing in Brazil.
