BESSET, Vera Lopes et al. Trauma e sintoma: da generalização à singularidade. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2006, vol.6, n.2, pp.311-331. ISSN 1518-6148.
In its Greek origin, the word trauma refers to wound. For psychoanalisys, trauma is a mark of the encounter of the subject with the sexual. Therefore, 'traumatic experiences' are on the basis of the symptom formation which gathers positive and negative effects of the trauma and where we can observe the preponderant expression of one or other of these tendencies, alternatively. In this conception, the symptom can be understood as the treatment that each subject gives to the trauma. In its treatment, the psychoanalitic clinic works particularly under these effects that are on the base of subject fixation in a specific position, in a singular mode of satisfaction. This proposal implicates the responsability of the subject face to what Freud named the "choice of neurosis". However, in our days, we observe a search in order to standardize the traumatic, which is referred to global or individual catastrophes, in a generalized way. This approach presents itself in consonance with a psychiatry oriented by DSM-IV that proposes an "objective" description of the traumatic, where the symptom is presented as a disorder. Consequently, there is a tendency to take off the responsability from the subjects on the face of their own suffering and the segregation of themselves in 'traumatized' groups. In this context, psychoanalisys still bets on tools left by Freud: make the subject talk about what makes him suffer. And, by answering the exigences of our time, psychoanalysts of lacanian inspiration do not move back due to attendance of 'traumatized' as data of recent experiences indicate. In this article, we use some theoretical and clinic subsidies found in freudian's work to go deep in the approach of trauma on psychonalytic clinic, updated by the reference of contemporary authors, inspired in Lacan's teaching.
